About the Year of the Snake

The snake is the sixth of the twelve animals which appear in the Shēngxiào, more popularly known as the Chinese zodiac. The Chinese zodiac assigns an animal to represent a specific year and persons who are born in a certain year are said to have certain personality traits. It is also said that future events can be predicted for a person based on their Chinese zodiac sign. The snake is said to be one of the most mysterious and alluring signs. Similar to the way a snake charms its prey, people born in the year of the snake are charming and can easily persuade others. They make friends easily and always seem to get their way.

Persons born in the following years are said to be born in the year of the snake:

1905, 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013.

The zodiac sign is further subdivided into five elements – fire, metal, water, wood and earth. The years 1941 and 2001 are metal snake years. The years 1953 and 2013 are water snake years. The years 1905 and 1965 are wood snake years. The years 1917 and 1977 are fire snake years. The years 1929 and 1989 are earth snake years.

Fire snakes are sensitive and intuitive. Water snakes tend to be lucky with finances and always seem to have money flowing their way. Wood snakes are impulsive, outspoken and intelligent.Metal snakes are strong in character and dedicated to their goals. Earth snakes are independent and free-spirited.

Lucky numbers for persons born in the years of the snake are 2, 4, 7 and 9. Their lucky colours are yellow and red.
